On the stone
In Cast Away movie (2000), Tom Hanks played the role of a plane-crash survivor– Chuck Noland– who found himself on the shore of an isolated island the day after the plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean. After awaking, he explores the island and finds out that it is uninhabited. He lives in the island for four years, and he manages to return to civilization only when a cargo ship finds him on a raft he made in the last days he was in the island.
From many years ago that I watched Cast away, I sometimes contemplate it and think to myself: what if I really was left in such a situation? How long can I survive in the island? Would I lose my ability to communicate with other human beings after four years?
Putting aside the questions I wrote above, one of the questions that comes to my mind is: if the only thing I can do there–besides finding food and water to survive– is writing on a stone, what would I write? Would I write the names of the people I love and care about? Would I write a will for the people who may find my skeleton years after my death? Would I write some verses of Quran or any other religious books? Or I would write about the things happened to me after the plane crash?
What would I write about?
What would you write on the stone?
